Education is everyone's right, the duty of the State and the family. Early childhood education should be accessible to all children without discrimination of elements of culture, moral, environmental and ethical formation with the aim of enriching their cognitive development and their social insertion as citizens of the world. In the context of the Cocó mangrove, it is of great importance for children that they have an idea of this ecosystem that is the victim of a continuous process of environmental degradation, where deforestation for the construction of buildings has been worryingly compromising the fauna and flora. The teaching and learning process connects with practices experienced in the student's daily life when he sees himself in the environment and recognizes and applies scientific concepts and fundamentals. With the purpose of probing the knowledge of a sample of students from the 5th grade of elementary school at a public school in the city of Fortaleza-CE, a questionnaire was applied with the objective of verifying whether the students reconciled the science contents related to the mangrove, preservation and sustainability, using the Cocó mangrove as an example. Therefore, this article aims to investigate and promote knowledge about the Cocó mangrove ecosystem, working as a teaching and learning practice of an investigative, scientific and playful nature with students of the 5th grade of elementary school in a municipal school.
