Abstract

In Mozambique, particularly in the northern zone, the test field of tobacco and lettuce crops have their impact on the environment in the use of inorganic fertilizers for soil fertilization. The aim of this study is to identify the causes of excessive use of inorganic NPK fertilizers in soil fertilization. Thus, the soil loses its properties with the use of inorganic fertilizers, for this, a questionnaire, interview and measurement of the crop indices were used to obtain the results obtained that when confronted with the leaf indices and the diameters of the various tobaccos and lettuce, for inorganically fertilized tobacco that obtained a width of 30 cm, length of 66 cm and diameter of 7 cm. For organic fertilization, a width of 15 cm, a length of 49 cm and a diameter of 3 were obtained, while the natural soil, i.e., not fertilized, was obtained with a width of 13 cm and a length of 25, with a diameter of 2 cm. The leaf index was measured for lettuce, where the soil fertilized inorganically obtained 50 cm in length, 20 cm in width and a diameter of 5 cm. For organic fertilization, 32 cm in length, 10 cm in width and 3 cm in diameter were obtained. For natural soil, 20 cm in length, 8 cm in width and 2 cm in diameter were obtained. It is thus concluded that organic fertilization is within the guidelines and that the soil is really vitiated by the fertilization process.
