With the increasing prevalence of cancer, fertility preservation has become a significant clinical concern, considering the high risk of infertility resulting from oncological treatments. The aim of this study is to understand the main methods of fertility preservation and their impacts on cancer patients. This is an integrative literature review, utilizing articles published between 2020 and 2023 from the PubMed and BVS databases. The results reveal that the cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos is considered the gold standard for post-pubertal patients, while the cryopreservation of ovarian tissue is a viable option for those who cannot wait for treatment. In the case of male patients, sperm cryopreservation stands out as the predominant strategy. Thus, there is an urgent need for greater clarification on fertility preservation during oncological diagnosis, focusing on the quality of life and reproductive health of patients. Significant challenges are identified, such as the lack of adequate information and the need for accessible and low-cost methods.
