Abstract

Objective: to identify the strategies used by nurses to encourage the participation of the father/partner in prenatal care. Methodology: This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach. A semi-structured interview, a sociodemographic questionnaire and Content Analysis were used. Results: Eleven nurses participated in the study, with an average training time of 15.36 years and the length of experience in the respective units of 3.96 years. The results demonstrate that the strategies used were welcoming, encouraging family bonding, conducting more dynamic consultations, conducting quick exams and tests, and proof of attendance for those men who need proof for their work. Conclusion: The way nurses offer prenatal care, provide technical-scientific support and emotional support, demonstrate empathy and solicitude in relation to the wishes of the couple who go through the gestational process, interferes with the satisfaction and connection of men with the health service .
