The significant growth on the number of trained professionals in Dentistry in the country is generating professional uncertainties among Dental Surgeons, as regards the placement on the labor market. The present study aimed to identify whether former students who graduated in the period from 2015 to 2019 from a Dentistry course in Caxias do Sul obtained insertion in the job market, identify the market position, and identify the delay in market placing. An unstructured questionnaire was applied through electronic mail to 184 dental surgeons, which was only answered after acceptance of the Informed Consent Form. After data collection, descriptive analysis of responses was performed. Among the participants, 97.3% answered that they currently practice Dentistry, the most mentioned performance was autonomous in an own or rented office, totaling 67.9%. Related to the time taken to enter the labor market, it was possible to verify that 69% of the participants took 1 to 3 months after graduation to reach this goal; 15.2% took 7 to 10 months; 3.8% took more than 10 months; 6.5% did not know how to answer this question. Only 2.7% of former students are not currently working in the dental labor market. It was possible to identify in this study that former Dentistry students put themselves in the job market, mostly as a self-employed in an own or rented office. A period of less than 3 months was also observed as the delay time for placing them in the labor market.
