Resumo

The transition to higher education can be presented as a source of stress, tension or as a challenge, requiring different work and organizational strategies on the part of adolescents, whose consequent adaptation can be understood as a multidimensional process that requires the development of skills adaptive to a new reality, which may or may not be developed by the academic experiences of the student and that will have an impact on their academic performance. This study was conducted with 1287 students attending the various levels of education of the University of Lisbon, aiming to characterize the level of psychological well-being. The Psychological Well-Being Scales were applied.  The young university students participating in this study had high mean levels of Psychological Well-being in global terms, but also in terms of the Personal Growth dimension, where the result was higher. It is noteworthy that psychological well-being tends to increase with age. The size of personal growth is where participants have higher levels, but women have higher levels in all dimensions. The results suggest that the reported satisfaction may interfere with the process of adaptation to higher education.
