THE MEASUREMENT OF INTRA-ABDOMINAL PRESSURE IN PROPHYLAXIS OF MULTIPLE ORGAN FAILURE: An INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Objectives: To provide clinical and scientific knowledge on intra-abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome, necessary for decision making and intervention. Method: Integrative review performed in databases: PubMED; SCIELO; MEDLINE and LILACS. Articles from March/2013 to July/2021 were included, excluding studies in children, animal models, secondary articles, theses and dissertations. Results: 142 articles were found, of which 20 were selected for the final sample. The results obtained were grouped into four classes: knowledge of health professionals on intra-abdominal pressure and focus on risk factors, diagnosis and treatment. Final considerations: Intra-abdominal hypertension is significant in the ICU and may progress to abdominal compartment syndrome. These are recurrent conditions and independent predictors of mortality. Its early diagnosis prevents a number of complications. Mastering diagnostic techniques and identifying risk factors is the key to optimizing the treatment of these pathologies.
