Abstract

ABSTRACT

Schistosomiasis is a helminthiasis that affects several countries, including Brazil, occurring in several regions of the country, and is considered a public health problem in several states. The microregion where the study was carried out, includes nine cities located in a region with a triple border with Brazilian states, with a large proportion of the population living in rural areas, living with low levels of human development, basic sanitation, and educational instruction, considered a risk of contamination and dissemination of parasites such as schistosomiasis. The research evaluated epidemiological aspects of the positive cases of Schistosoma mansoni infection in the municipalities of Carlos Chagas, MG; Nanuque, MG; Serra dos Aimorés, MG; Ibirapuã, BA; Mucuri, BA; Nova Viçosa, BA; Motanha, ES; Mucurici, ES and Ponto Belo, ES, between 2009 and 2017, analyzing data provided by the SINAN and the Schistosomiasis Control Program (PCE). The results showed a high index of positive cases in the microregion during the analyzed period and few programs for prevention and elimination of the disease in the microregion.
