Abstract

The importance of aesthetics is growing in dentistry, as a result of a growing demand of patients seeking a better physical appearance, and in this context, the smile assumes a significant role. Vital teeth often manifest with an altered color, significantly compromising aesthetics. According to the etiology of dental darkening, whitening may be the first treatment option and is a conservative and effective approach in the vast majority of cases. Dental whitening is a popular procedure to improve appearance; however, most patients undergoing this procedure have a negative reaction, such as painful dental sensitivity. And in recent times, a new modality of dental bleaching has emerged, with lasers, which are minimally invasive and help in reducing pain by sensitivity. Some of the concerns about its use are often linked to the investment required for its acquisition, the need for specialization training, and the sensitivity of the technique.
