Abstract

This research aimed to analyze an indication of eating disorders during the pandemic period in medical students at a private University Center in the interior of Paraná. Cross-sectional, exploratory, descriptive study, focusing on data collection through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire adapted from the EAT-26. A total of 103 students responded to the survey, 66% female and 34% male. With regard to weight during the pandemic, 10.7% of the population maintained their weight, 26.2% lost weight, and 63.1% of the studied population gained weight. The incidence of overweight was 22%. There were 7 more participants who were classified as grade I obesity and 4 became grade II obese. Regarding the EAT-26, in terms of diet, 10.3% are candidates for eating disorders since they started to worry (incidence of 10.3%) with food intake and physical form after confinement. The incidence of participants with signs of Bulimia or preoccupation with food was 4.9%. The incidence of the population that lost oral control after the COVID-19 related confinement was 13.3%. Thus, the present study found a portion of students as candidates for eating disorders, more studies must be developed in order to identify this susceptible population so that preventive actions are employed with the objective of avoiding the real appearance of this condition.
