Abstract

Precipitation is the climatic variable with the highest number of records in Brazil, being represented by the spatialization of rain gauges in considerable number. The objective is to perform the analysis of precipitation between 1980 and 2017, aiming to contribute to the decisions of sectors such as the economy, agriculture, irrigation, energy production, water resources, agricultural and agronomic engineering, fire department, civil defense and decision makers in case of events that may occur in the future in Cabo de Santo Agostinho – Pernambuco. The monthly average precipitation data were grouped characterizing a climatological normal period of 1980-2017 where the software was used in electronic spreadsheets to extract the values of the monthly, annual averages, plotting their respective graphs and trends. These data were provided by the Water and Climate Agency of the State of Pernambuco. The variations in rainfall indices over the years are linked to the phenomena of macro, meso and micro scales being of great influence to the rainfall regimes of the municipality. In the climatological analysis of rainfall indices in the municipality under study, the months from April to July showed the highest rainfall indices with 59% of the annual total and the months from September to December the lowest rainfall indexes with 12% of the annual precipitation. There is a need for policies and plans for capturing and using rainwater, in addition to the more efficient use of other natural resources in the studied area, so that socioeconomic development is not limited by water availability.
