Cataracts are a condition in which the lens progressively loses its transparency, being one of the main reversible causes of blindness in the world and representing an important public health problem. Among the risk factors, the chronic use of corticosteroids stands out. The aim of this study was to present a case report of bilateral posterior subcapsular cataract associated with chronic use of topical corticosteroids. This is a descriptive observational study, case report type, of a patient diagnosed with rosacea who presented ocular involvement and was attended at a private ophthalmology clinic in Rio Branco-Acre. Visual acuity and biomicroscopy revealed a significant reduction in vision in both eyes and the presence of bilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts, attributed to the chronic use of corticosteroids. Therefore, a surgical procedure was indicated for visual rehabilitation. Thus, it is extremely important to properly guide patients about the risks of self-medication and the need for regular follow-up in cases of chronic use, in order to prevent damage caused by improper use.
