Abstract

Knowing the local climate is a necessary factor for the evaluation of water resources, because several meteorological elements are indispensable throughout the hydrological cycle. In this context, the objectives of this article are to estimate the climatological water balance and the decadal balance for the municipality of Monteiro and to evaluate the behavior of the main dam of this area. The results revealed that the months of greatest rainfall in the municipality are March and April, while the lowest average temperature values occur from June to August. Analyzing the climatological water balance, there were months in which water replacement and withdrawal occurs, while in the water balance for the period 2000 to 2010 there is only water deficit. The decadal and climatological water balance showed lower water deficiency value for the month of May and higher water deficiency in November.
