Abstract

Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is a common and potentially fatal medical emergency, representing one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality globally. Myocardial necrosis markers, such as cardiac troponin and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), play a crucial role in the diagnosis and risk stratification of AMI. Objective: The objective of this bibliographic review is to analyze the importance of these markers in the early and accurate diagnosis of AMI. Methodology: Scientific databases in three languages (English, Spanish and Portuguese) were consulted to select 20 relevant articles on the subject, published in the last five years. Results and Discussion: Cardiac troponin was identified as the "gold standard" for the diagnosis of AMI due to its high sensitivity and specificity. Its serial measurement is essential to identify high-risk patients, and CK-MB can be useful as a complementary marker in specific cases. Risk stratification and prognosis based on myocardial necrosis markers are crucial for the identification of patients with worse clinical evolution and the adoption of more intensive therapeutic approaches. Research on new biomarkers, such as myoglobin and BNP, offer promising perspectives to improve diagnosis and risk stratification in AMI. Conclusion:  Myocardial necrosis markers are essential for an early and accurate diagnosis of AMI, providing better patient care and reducing morbidity and mortality associated with this highly relevant clinical condition in cardiology.
