Abstract

Crime Scene Preservation and the Chain of Custody are fundamental for elucidating crimes and holding perpetrators accountable, and traces collected at the crime scene may become evidence, revealing the participation and conduct of the perpetrators. However, when procedural measures are not adopted to guarantee the completeness of the objects collected at the scene, an error occurs that could jeopardize the accountability of the perpetrator of a crime. Lawyers have sought to disqualify the evidence in order to acquit their client, generating doubt in the manner of collection, storage and transportation of the collected element, demonstrating doubt in its entirety, or even indicating that in this way, the collected element has been manipulated. When a criminal is not held accountable for a procedural error, the feeling of impunity increases, as the Police are expected to act in a technical and professional manner. In armed clashes, police teams must be trained to carry out procedures to preserve the crime scene and collect traces and evidence, which will be essential for investigating the facts, demonstrating the legitimacy of the action, as well as the professionalism of the teams. police in the preservation and completeness of evidence. The development of police activity in a technical and responsible manner, in the area of public security, contributed to the legal system, ensuring that the evidence collected at the crime scene can support the court's decision, demonstrating the credibility of police institutions.
