Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin, nails and joints, recurrent, immune-mediated, genetically based, with a large clinical expression polymorphism. It has a universal character, that occurs as erythemato-descamative plaques, with significant interference in the quality of life of the affected patients. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients with psoriasis who are being followed up at the dermatology outpatient clinic at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí. METHOD: A cross-sectional, observational, descriptive study was carried out in which questionnaires were applied to patients with Psoriasis who were followed up at the Dermatology outpatient clinic of HU-UFPI from April 2018 to August 2018. RESULTS: There were predominance of male patients, married, brown, with low level of instruction, income of just over a minimum wage, coming from the urban area of ​​the interior of Piauí, with an average age of 47 years. The main associated comorbidities were hypertension, dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Psoriatic arthritis was associated in a third of cases. Topical treatment with clobetasol was performed in 40% of patients and nearly one third of patients were using immunosuppressant methotrexate, while 20% of patients were on immunobiological use. No phototherapy treatment is performed at this hospital.
