Analyzing the magnitude of ‘Syphilis in Pregnancy’, the studyAbstract
Analyzing the magnitude of ‘Syphilis in Pregnancy’, the study aimed to evaluate the testing service offered through Primary Health Care in Altamira. Through the descriptive ecological study based on documents, the following variables were investigated: number of pregnant women attended, number of tests performed, test results and gestational period of testing. The care plan recommended by the Municipal Health Department was also evaluated. Of the total of 27,280 pregnant women monitored, 100% realized rapid tests and 390 cases were diagnosed by VDRL (1.42% of the total). Most of these occurrences were find during the third trimester of pregnancy. There was no diagnosis at the time of delivery. The ‘Protocol’ adopted appears to be adequate to the diagnostic and care needs related to Syphilis among a pregnant population, as well as meeting the recommendations of the main obstetric care policies in the country. However, these measures were not enough to reduce the number of people infected. It is suggested the expansion of testing from the first contact with the pregnant woman and speed in the dissemination of diagnoses, to provide treatment in a timely manner. Meanwhile, more and better health education actions can collaborate to control the disease.
