Abstract

This study aims to describe the gaps in the literature on vertical transmission of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and discuss interventional actions for the population. It is, therefore, a scoping review from June to November 2023, with the guiding question elaborated from the PCC strategy, with this, the following databases were carried out: LILACS, BDENF, Coleciona SUS, BDTD and SciELO. We used the Decs/Mesh: ("Nursing Care" OR " HIV Infections") for the population, ("HIV") for the concept and ("HIV Infections" OR "Nursing Interventions") for the context of the study. Studies in English, Portuguese and Spanish covering Nursing Care, HIV and mother-to-child transmission of HIV from 2017 to 2023 were included, resulting in 08 eligible studies. The results highlighted the crucial importance of nursing interventions in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV. The relevance of education, clinical follow-up and preventive strategies carried out by nurses was emphasized, effectively reducing the risk of transmission of the virus from mother to child. In addition, the need to provide clear guidance on infant feeding was emphasized, highlighting safe alternatives to breastfeeding when necessary, ensuring safe feeding practices for the baby's health. The conclusion of this study is to reinforce the importance of nurses' role in the management of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, which is essential to prevent the spread of the virus from mother to child, through specific interventions such as antiretroviral therapy, guidance on delivery options and postnatal care. Thus, they play a role in reducing risk.
