Diving is a sport that consists of underwater submersion with or without the use of breathing apparatus. There are three distinct types of diving: apnea, free and autonomous. During diving, physiological changes occur due to the increase in atmospheric pressure in the underwater environment. These alterations can cause several pathologies and problems that compromise the safety and health of the diver, therefore, it is imperative that the practitioner has knowledge of decompression maneuvers and pressure balance. Thus, the general objective of the work is to present the conditions and pathologies that limit the practice of sport diving. To carry out the work, the methodological procedure of the bibliographic review with a qualitative approach was used, in which authors such as Queiroz et al (2012), São Paulo State Fire Department (2006) and NAUI (2013) were consulted. After the research, it was possible to understand that there are several pathologies of a neurological, behavioral, psychological, gastrointestinal, cardiac, respiratory nature, among others that prevent absolutely or partially the practice of diving.
