Abstract

The book "Among the Thugs: The Crowd and the Seduction of Violence", by Bill Buford, analyzes mass behavior and the attraction to collective violence, especially in the context of English football in the 1980s. Buford recounts his personal experiences with different fan groups, exploring the complexity of human behavior in extreme situations. He contextualizes the narrative within the European scene of the time, highlighting social exclusion and aversion to difference as prominent features of hooligan culture. The author concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing this complex phenomenon.
