Peace and unity imply not only the harmony between different wills, but also the union of the appetites of the same entity, that is, for peace it is not enough for unity to be between individuals, but it must be, rather, internal to each individual. This article sought to answer the following question: what is peace? are there ways to reach it? Through a literature review study, this article sought to describe the philosophical construct “peace”, its nature and causes. Furthermore, it was defined as an objective to correlate this concept in the perspective of Saint Thomas Aquinas, with the virtues: justice, wisdom and charity. In this direction, for peace to materialize among men, it is necessary to practice the virtues that help to produce that peace so desired by humanity. Thus, it was concluded that peace is not only considered, by St. Thomas Aquinas, as an effect of certain virtues, but presupposes order, unity and interior quietness; besides all this, it is a perfect harmony between man's appetites.
