Abstract

This study sought to evaluate the role of the human gut microbiota in the development of breast cancer, exploring its ability to modulate inflammation, immunity, and metabolism in these patients. Methods- An integrative literature review was conducted using the VHL, SciELO, Google Scholar and PubMed databases. Articles with priorities from the last 10 years and those that had theoretical data relevant to the theme were selected. Results- The integrative review of the literature revealed that the gut microbiota plays a significant role in health and disease, and may influence the development and prognosis of breast cancer. It has been shown that probiotics emerge as potential allies in the protection against breast cancer, due to their ability to modulate the gut microbiota and exert systemic immunomodulatory effects. Studies suggest that supplementation with probiotics may improve quality of life and some nutritional parameters in breast cancer patients. However, a greater understanding of the underlying mechanism and robust clinical trials are needed to validate these effects and translate them into tangible clinical benefits. Conclusion- In the studies carried out, it was found that probiotics help to minimize the effects of several clinical manifestations and can modulate the intestinal microbiome in patients with breast cancer.
