Abstract

The present study focuses on spirituality and its insertion in the universe of clinical psychotherapy, reflecting this aspect from the perspective of the same as a constituent of the human being, being this biopsychosocial and spiritual. Such knowledge, anchored in the valuation of clients' belief systems, contributes to the adherence and unfolding of the individual in the psychotherapeutic process. Transpersonal psychology has proved to be an important theoretical framework in this context of the relationship between spirituality and mental health. The objective of this research is to understand the relationship between psychology and spirituality in psychotherapeutic practice, based on the theoretical and philosophical postulates and studies carried out in this field, demonstrating the relevance of the subject for investigations in Brazil and helping in the construction of a clinical model of action that care of the whole person. The methodological path consists of a qualitative research, of an integrative character as a way of orienting the systematization of the results of the bibliographic research. In view of this, it was observed the necessary recognition of spirituality as an essential component for a comprehensive understanding of health, clarifying the concepts of religiosity and spirituality among health professionals, including in the psychological field. The importance of including spirituality as a health resource in the training of the new psychologist professionals is emphasized; as well as specific training for psychologists already working in the clinical area.
