Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the most relevant studies on the formation of habits in social contexts and, from them, to have a better understanding of the theme and how it has been approached in recent years. A search was conducted in the Scopus database where 31 articles were analyzed in order to highlight the context of each research and its specificities. The results show that most of the studies analyzed had their research focus on changing mobility/transportation habits and reducing water consumption, with the recycling area being the least researched. It is also part of the results of this study, the categorization of the determinants of the habit into three factors, namely: individual factor, context/structural factor, and context change factor. This categorization can contribute in a practical way for public managers to use it in the formulation of social engagement campaigns and participation in public activities. We can also see from the analyses a lack of studies that address the influence of country change with regard to the formation of habits.
