ENHANCEMENT OF RUNNING PERFORMANCE THROUGH PLYOMETRIC EXERCISES: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

The present work aims to conceptualize and understand, through a careful and comprehensive literature review, how plyometric exercises can enhance running performance. The research was guided by the following question: How can plyometric exercises enhance running performance? To answer this question, extensive research was carried out in scientific articles, books and other academic sources related to the topic. Plyometric exercises are characterized by involving a quick stretching movement followed by an explosive muscle shortening movement. This type of exercise has been used in sports training with the aim of improving muscle power, which is a determining factor for running performance. The literature review highlighted a series of studies that confirm the effectiveness of plyometric exercises in improving performance in runners. Evidence suggests that these exercises promote neuromuscular adaptations that result in greater running efficiency. Therefore, this work provides theoretical support for understanding the contribution of plyometric exercises to enhancing running performance and can be useful for athletes, coaches and health professionals interested in optimizing running training. Through critical analysis of existing literature, this study contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the area of Exercise Physiology.
