TELEODONTOLOGY AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DENTAL CLINICS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Teleodontology is an emerging branch of telehealth that uses electronic information, imaging and communication technologies to provide and support dental care delivery, diagnosis, consultation and education. Thanks to advancing technological capabilities, it has the potential to fundamentally transform the practice and format of dental care, promoting patient participation, treatment adherence and the professional-patient bond. However, despite its advantages, it faces technological and accessibility barriers, and should not be considered a substitute for face-to-face care. Thus, this paper analyzes the implementation of teleodontology in the management of dental clinics, the possible barriers and limitations, and highlights its benefits compared to traditional care. With a focus on improving technological infrastructure and acceptance by patients and practitioners, tele-dentistry is well positioned to make dentistry more accessible and efficient, improving oral health outcomes globally.
