Abstract

By addressing feelings experienced by pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), this scoping review aims to map in the literature the main difficulties that permeate the lives of pregnant women diagnosed with GDM. The data survey was carried out from August 2020 in the data sources of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), Nursing Database (BDENF), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), as well as in the gray literature. The learning process about this pathology can be difficult and, in some cases, it can be related to the low education level of the pregnant woman or to psychological factors, such as denial of the pathology, anxiety, anguish, fear, insecurity, impotence, among other feelings generated with the food restrictions, sleep deprivation, hypertension, etc. Thus, it is suggested to intensify research with a view to promoting health and preventing harm to pregnant women with GDM in order to reduce maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality.
