Abstract

Biomaterials consist in products that act on biological systems, consisting in diverse materials such as metal alloys, ceramics and varied polymers, which are biocompatible and bioactive. The development of rare earth-containing biomaterials has a considerable aspect in the last years based in its luminescent characteristics that guarantee its use in imaging examinations. The objective of this paper was analyzed the technical innovations deposited in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Since 2010, only 6 patents have been published in the subject studied, being the same from China, Japan and Russia. The applications of the biomaterials focused on the area of nanotechnology, including metal alloys and advanced ceramics, for application in diagnostic medicine and environmental depollution.
