ADVERSE REACTIONS OF CYCLOOXYGENASE – 3 (COX – 3) ANTAGONISTS: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Background: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) involving indirect action of cyclooxygenase-3 (COX-3) antagonists on other isoenzymes are poorly documented in secondary studies in the health scientific literature. Objective: to clarify the indirect adverse reactions involving the blockade of the splicing variant isoenzyme of COX – 1. Methodology: This is an Integrative Review, based on the acronym PCC and including the databases of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), Capes Periodicals, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE). Terms of interest found in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) were used as descriptors. Results: A total of 9 studies were located, including 3 case studies, 2 cohort studies, and 4 cross-sectional studies. ADRs of COX – 3 antagonists are due to low selectivity of Cyclooxygenase (COX) receptors, nerve alterations and the physiological characteristics of the patient. Conclusion: Cyclooxygenase 3 (COX – 3) antagonist drugs stop adverse reactions based on the patient's history, the spectrum of drug action and the dosage of drugs belonging to the class of non-steroidal analgesics. Further studies are needed to create and elucidate direct-acting drugs on COX-3 so that there is a reduction in adverse effects.
