Abstract

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) affects the patient's own view of his body and distorts it, in several situations BDD is prevalent in patients who are candidates for plastic surgery, seeking to fit a social pattern, trying to modify one or several parts of their body to achieve an unattainable result. The objective was to bring brief information about BDD in the context of performing cosmetic plastic surgeries or not, as well as to evaluate the diagnostic method used by plastic surgeons and their conducts in front of these patients. The research was conducted by the GoogleForms platform, online, interviewing 11 physicians who were training and specializing in plastic surgery. The analysis was qualitative based on the reflection of each professional and the results submitted in the light of content analysis. There was unanimity in the knowledge about BDD and statements about that a patient with high rates of dissatisfaction, so, regardless of the result, they would seek more surgeries and other ways to achieve their goals.
