The COVID-19 pandemic was responsible for several and complex changes with regard to the health of the elderly population, with serious consequences for health systems in Brazil and worldwide. The objective of this work was to address the scientific evidence published in the Brazilian Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology regarding the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health of the elderly. This is a literature review of the integrative literature review method, carried out from June 2021 to October 2021. The searches were carried out through the journal “Brazilian Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology”, which brings studies on the elderly population. The descriptors/keywords used were: “COVID-19”, “Corona Virus” and “Pandemia” combined with the Boolean operator “AND”. The inclusion criteria were original articles published in the Brazilian Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology, available in full, that contemplated the topic investigated digitally, published in Portuguese and English. In total, 6 articles participated in this study. The large number of cases and deaths caused by the spread of the virus has a great impact on the health system in Brazil with regard to the services offered to the population, especially for people over 60 years of age. It is also highlighted the need for greater attention to the health conditions of the elderly population in facing the Corona Virus pandemic, understanding its particularities that place them in conditions of greater risk and worsening of the clinical conditions of COVID-19, so that possible damages may be avoided ensuring the integrity of the elderly.
