Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is characterized as a respiratory syndrome of rapid contamination. In order to prevent the rapid spread of the virus and the worsening of the disease, the population increased the consumption of medication for self-medication. Objective: The aim of this study is to present a systematic review of the literature on the practice of self-medication during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, for which only articles that met the selection criteria and contributed to meeting the proposed objectives were considered. . To carry out this research, bibliographic and documentary analysis was used, that is, documents and articles that are available in searchable databases such as Google Scholar, Online Medical Literature Analyzes and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and the Medical Publications (PUBMED) platform. The pandemic brought many questions and several possibilities for therapy, however, initially there was no precise determination about a treatment, thus, the population fearful started a self-medication behavior. Studies have shown that the practice of self-medication grew among the population during the pandemic as a way to prevent the spread of the virus or cure the disease.
