Abstract

Considering the increase in the number of cases of cancer, especially breast cancer, part of them without the possibility of cure, it is evident the need and importance of palliative care that aim at comfort and management at the end of the life of cancer patients. The objective of this work is to define the main recommendations of palliative therapy proposed in the care of patients with metastatic breast cancer. An integrative literature review was conducted with the descriptors in Health Sciences "Metastatic breast cancer" AND "Palliative care" in the following virtual libraries: MEDLINE, PUBMED, Literatura Latino- LILACS and SCIELO. The use of palliative care in patients with metastatic breast cancer has increased significantly in recent years. This intervention is beneficial for improving the quality of life of metastatic women.  Most studies indicate that the institution of early therapy improved information on disease symptoms, severity and treatment guidelines. The palliative care strategy positively impacts the quality of life of patients and their families because it is a physical, psychosocial and spiritual support program. Moreover, it should be initiated early after the diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer to ensure greater benefit.
