DIFFICULTIES IN THE FIELD OF GENERAL CHEMISTRY OF THE 1ST YEAR STUDENTS OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES AND CLINICAL ANALYSIS COURSE IN THE POLYTECHNIC HIGHER INSTITUTE OF CAÁLA.

Abstract

The present study addresses the difficulties in the field of general chemistry presented by 1st year students in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Analysis course at Instituto Superior Politécnico da Caála, whose objective was to identify difficulties in the learning process in General Chemistry. The development of the same was conducted from an investigation, of the qualitative type, in order to describe the profile of the students, and as a technique for data collection, the semi-open questionnaire was used, divided into two main axes: sociocultural data and in in relation to Chemistry Teaching. Students, when asked if they liked the Chemistry course, 9.09% said they did not like the course, 43.93% had difficulties with calculations, 40.90% had difficulties with memorizing formulas. It was observed that in the present study most of the students attended Economics and Legal Sciences, that is, they did not have Chemistry in high school, and their greatest difficulties are related to the use of calculations and the memorization of formulas, the theory-practice relationship is practically non-existent. blame the teacher and the methodology used. This research aims to help Chemistry teachers at ISP Caála adopt a methodology in which practical classes, contextualization, the use of audiovisual resources and extra activities (research, class outing, etc.) are integral parts of their didactic approaches at work. in the classroom and contribute to the improvement of the understanding and learning of the contents
