USE OF VIRTUAL REALITY TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO THE TEACHING OF GEOGRAPHY: AN EXPERIENCE REPORT IN A PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN THE INTERIOR OF THE STATE OF AMAZONAS

Abstract

This article presents the use of Virtual Reality (VR) technology and Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDICs) in the teaching of geography, for the interaction of high school students, exploring their relationship with the concepts and categories of geography. Virtual Reality offers the experience of immersion and interaction allowing students to explore virtual environments and interact with real world simulations. Digital Information and Communication Technologies encompasses a diverse set of technological tools that can be used in the teaching-learning process. It is possible to provide students with a more engaging and meaningful learning experience by combining Virtual Reality with DICTs to teach geography concepts and categories. Virtual Reality can simulate immersion in different landscapes and geographic environments, in this way, students can experience places that are distant and different from known landscapes. In addition, it allows teachers to take a more dynamic approach and thus enrich the teaching of geography, stimulating students' interest and facilitating the understanding of the subjects proposed by the teacher. This paper presents an experience report on the application of virtual reality and TDICs in the discipline of Geography, in a public high school in the interior of the State of Amazonas, within the scope of the supervised internship in a degree in computing.
