DENGUE IN CHILDREN: CLINICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ASPECTS IN THE CITY OF CASCAVEL, PARANÁ, FROM 2014 TO 2022

Introduction: Diagnosing dengue in children remains a challenge, especially in the early stages, due to the overlap of clinical symptoms with various other common childhood illnesses. Objectives: To describe the clinical and epidemiological aspects of dengue in children in the municipality of Cascavel, Paraná, from 2014 to 2022. Methodology: This is a descriptive, quantitative, and retrospective study conducted in the municipality of Cascavel, Paraná, using data available in the SINAN (Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificações). Results and Discussion: The results revealed a predominance of cases in male patients (n = 1,620; 55.12%), of white ethnicity (n = 2,226; 75.74%), and in the age group of 10 to 14 years (n = 1,490 cases; 50.69%). However, the age group of children under 1 year of age was proportionally the most affected, especially in terms of hospitalizations (13.45%). The year 2022 recorded the highest number of notifications (n = 1,529), and the months of March and April maintained the typical seasonality of the disease, with a higher incidence of cases. Conclusion: These data provide insights for the development of strategies focused on dengue prevention and control, with a special emphasis on protecting children, who are a vulnerable group to this disease.
