CÁNCER DE PRÓSTATA Y PLANTAS MEDICINALES: UNA ALTERNATIVA TERAPÉUTICA

Resumen

El cáncer de próstata se considera un cáncer de edad avanzada, que ocurre en la mayoría a partir de los 65 años, siendo, en la población masculina, la forma más frecuente de cáncer, con alta incidencia y tasa de mortalidad. Debido a que se considera un problema de salud pública, las plantas medicinales, que siempre han estado presentes en la terapia auxiliar de ciertas enfermedades, pueden servir como una herramienta en el tratamiento de esta neoplasia. Así, este estudio tiene como objetivo estudiar las propiedades de las plantas medicinales como alternativa terapéutica en el tratamiento del cáncer de próstata. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica estudiando la funcionalidad de los bioactivos vegetales como una forma de ayudar en la resolución y mejora del cuadro clínico en cáncer de próstata, investigando en bibliotecas virtuales, como PubMed, con las palabras "Plantas medicinales" O "Cáncer de próstata" O "Próstata Y tratamiento". Se observó que las sustancias estudiadas presentaban una protección relevante contra la metástasis y el crecimiento tumoral, lo que lleva a una buena acción terapéutica. La curcumina se observó inhibiendo la acción del estímulo NFkB y AR, además de la regulación de Bax y Bcl-2, así como la actividad de PSA y TGF-B. Además, se observó que los componentes del ajo también tenían actividad beneficiosa, principalmente Trisulfuro de Dialila, y en igual importancia, Epigalocatequina-3-galato, presente en el Té Verde, que también presentó resultados beneficiosos para el control del crecimiento tumoral.
