bibliographic review on the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression

Abstract

This study is a bibliographic review on the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression, exploring the biopsychosocial context. The objective is to discuss the symptomatological aspects of postpartum depression, allowing better clarity on the subject for puerperal women, professionals in the area and related areas, as well as for society in general. Data collection was based on analysis of books and scientific articles in the health area, researched on the Scielo, Google academic and Capes platforms. The articles were divided according to the indexers: depression, postpartum, biological, social and psychological factors. The result obtained from the literature review shows that the feeling of unpreparedness and incapacity of women before motherhood was evidenced, conjectureing a preponderant factor for the development of postpartum depression, leaving her susceptible to the feeling of failure and incompetence to be a mother.
