Abstract

Introduction: O: Music therapy, an evidence-based intervention that can bring about the promotion of well-being, because it is allied to the improvement of numerous emotional aspects. Objective: To infer whether, in palliative care patients, the use of music therapy, compared to non-use, contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the group. Method: Systematic literature review. The Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS/MeSH), palliative care, music therapy and quality of life, and in Spanish, Palliative Care, Music therapy and Quality of Life, were used for research in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), National Library of Medicine (Medline), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and Virtual Health Library (VHL). After processes of exclusion of the articles, 8 articles were found for reading and analysis. To evaluate the degree of evidence, the Grading of Recommendatons Assessment, Development and Evaluaton (GRADE) was used. Results: Music therapy can help patients in palliative care by promoting greater relaxation, spiritual well-being, strengthening integrity, feeling of general well-being and improvement of the psychological to treatment, but its effect on pain reduction and anxiety is not yet elucidated. Conclusion: Music therapy is an intervention to improve the overall quality of life of patients in palliative care, because even if it does not generate improvement of some symptoms, such as pain, generates physiological, psychological, spiritual and interpersonal improvements.
