STRATEGIES FOR PATIENT SAFETY IN MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION ERRORS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Identify effective strategies in the literature to prevent harm and promote patient safety in drug administration. METHODS: This is an integrative literature review, based on the guiding question: What are the proven strategies for preventing harm and promoting patient safety in the medication administration process? Data were obtained through the selection of articles researched in the databases: DOAJ, LILACS and SciELO, using the keywords: Nursing Care, Medication Errors and Patient Safety. Articles published between 2015 and 2020, in English, Portuguese and Spanish were included. And, excluded, scientific productions that were not available in full, that did not address the topic or that were duplicated in more than one database. RESULTS: 33 articles were analyzed. Twenty-seven Brazilian productions and six foreign ones. Of these, thirty-two written by nurses, and one by doctors. Conclusion: In the face of situations that can undermine patient safety, efforts have been made to increase promotion and prevention measures in the administration of medications.
