ORBITAL CAVITY RECONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES FOR THE USE OF EYE PROSTHESIS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON

Vision's ability to interpret colors, shapes and facial features is undeniable. Its absence unquestionably alters facial balance, leading to changes in family, social and psychological dynamics. Individuals who have anophthalmia require a path to recovery through ocular prostheses, allowing the restoration of aesthetics and psychosocial well-being. In this context, the main objective of this study was to demonstrate, through a bibliographical review of the literature, the importance of oral and maxillofacial for the population and its uniqueness in the dental environment, describing the techniques and methods used to manufacture the ocular prosthesis. According to the literature, the approach to treating ocular defects can be surgical, prosthetic or a combination of both. Ocular prosthetic rehabilitation aims to restore the lost structure artificially, carried out by oral and maxillofacial professionals. It is extremely important to have detailed knowledge of anatomy and create a care protocol, as quick and accurate diagnoses allow for adequate treatment, reducing potential sequelae, as well as knowledge about materials and techniques used to achieve satisfactory aesthetic and functional results. This allows for complete rehabilitation of the patient, restoring their self-esteem and facilitating their social reintegration.
