Objective: Although there are clinical guidelines and many laboratory tests to diagnose clinical deterioration due to sepsis, the diagnosis of sepsis is still difficult and complex. Biomarkers identified in the C-reactive protein (CRP) tests, the procalcitonin test (PCT) and the leukocyte count still show unsatisfactory specificities. During the period of patient admission, some clinical findings and epidemiological variables may indicate an evolution to clinical deterioration, complications or patient death. The identification of these signs and symptoms can help guide updated protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis. Therefore, the present study will aim to identify biomarkers that can be used by health professionals in the diagnosis and prognosis for early decision making with the patient with septicemia. Review Method: This is a scoping review. This method contributes to deepen the knowledge on the researched subject, evidencing conclusions from the corpus of literature on a given phenomenon, as well as enabling the identification of gaps of knowledge about this phenomenon.. Presentation and Interpretation of Results: The data will be summarized in a descriptive approach. A narrative summary will be shown by results and will describe how the outcomes are related to the objective and issue of the literature review.
