FAMILY BUSINESSES AND THE CHALLENGE OF THE SUCCESSION OF MANAGEMENT

Understanding the aspects of the organizational environment is a challenge, understanding these aspects in family businesses, broadens the challenge, because they are systems where family and management interact. In these companies, the succession process needs to be strategic and well followed in all its stages. The purpose of this article was to appreciate the succession in family businesses, entering subjective issues to contribute and expand the research base on the complex process of transition of generations in these companies. The main objective was to discuss conceptual and theoretical approaches, focusing on the debate on the relations between family businesses and succession, considering the idea that succession can cause a strategic reorientation from a rupture in the organization and this process should be conducted to a sensitive result in the choice of a successor.
