BIG DATA AND ITS MEANING FOR THE FIELD OF EDUCATION

The ICTs - Information and Communication Technologies, currently, have come to be widely used as a standard of basic platforms to the much discussed and necessary method of teaching and learning. In this panorama, it is known that a vast amount of data about this method can be produced automatically, as well as stored for study and analysis purposes. Considering that such data can be seen as being of great volume, a method that is born as suitable for data analysis is the so-called Big Data, especially when aimed at the educational environment. In this study, the concept of Big Data is presented, highlighting its use in teaching and learning methods, being presented, therefore, both its benefits and its current uses and also the challenges that involve its practice in the educational panorama. In this way, it seeks to announce a trend that makes it possible to start future altercations about the use of the Big Data technique as a basis for the advancement of the teaching and learning method in Brazil.
