SQUAD DESIGNATED MARKSMAN AND THE CHOICE OF THE BEST SET: GUN, AMMO AND AIMING DEVICE

Abstract

The research aims to discuss the best configuration of armament, with regard to caliber, operating system, barrel length and pitch of treachrate; the ammunition that will behave more effectively under the use of the configuration of armament, reaching the best possible result in terms of terminal ballistics; and the desirable aiming apparatus, thinking about hostile target recognition at medium distances (up to 300m), accuracy and possibility of identifying distances and wind correction without the need for other equipment. With the advent of violent crimes against property in its various classifications, especially the one known as "City Domain", in which gangs of more than thirty heavily armed criminals subjugate state forces to steal value bases, it became imperative that the police adopt new strategies for this confrontation. Due to the difficulty of approaching offenders due to the great war power they use, in addition to perimeter surveillance through drones, the use of the Squad Designated Marksman (SDM) was considered as one of the tools of defense plans to address this type of threat. For the development of the research, a bibliographic review was carried out on the subject, noddedly in works related to in-depth knowledge about ballistics, as well as field tests with weapons, ammunition and aiming devices that can be found in the national market, precisely to verify whether they meet this demand without the need to use imported material.
