Abstract

Orthodontic aligners have gone through great changes over time, initially being made analogically, with plaster models, to what it is today with the use of 3D digital tools in software. The objective of this narrative literature review is to describe and discuss the scientific evidence available on aligner therapy in Orthodontics in recent years, analyzing its planning and diagnosis, software, tooth movements, limitations, and new work trends. For this research, PubMed and Scielo databases were used with articles no older than 8 years in Spanish, English or Portuguese and published in indexed journals. The results obtained are that the treatments carried out with in-house aligners or those made by companies have shown to be effective in dental movement, generating a high prediction in obtaining favorable results with this method of orthodontic therapy. At the same time, the diagnosis and planning of these cases presents benefits for orthodontists, however it is necessary to train professionals for the use of dental software and more studies related to directly printed aligners are necessary since the evidence is insufficient for recommendations. clinics. It is possible to show that there are benefits of performing treatments with aligners in orthodontics in the planning, diagnosis and efficiency of movement, achieving an impact of orthodontic treatments.
