Abstract

Objective: To present scientific evidence on the protective effect of the use of vitamins on hearing loss in the elderly. Methods: The search for articles was carried out in the databases Scielo, Lilacs, Pubmed, Scopus, Bireme and Web Of Science, a search for gray literature was carried out on Google Scholar. There was no restriction on location, period and language. This research is registered in PROSPERO under number CRD 42020208079. Results: most studies report the association between vitamin B12 and folate deficiency with hearing loss, however it was also observed that there was a failure to demonstrate an association specifically between the level of hearing and consumption of vitamin B12 or folic acid in the participants, however it was reported that participants who had a higher intake of folate had a reduced risk of hearing loss. Conclusion: The deficit in the intake of antioxidant vitamins may contribute to the decline in hearing loss.
