DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AMONG WOMEN IN COMMUNITIES AND PERIPHERIES

Abstract

Violence against women is a serious social and public health problem that affects thousands of women. Regardless of nationality, age group, social class, etc., it is a form of violation of human rights and human dignity. This is reflected in unequal power relations between men and women, causing gender discrimination. Although violence against women is expressed in different ways, the work will focus on sexual violence, present in different contexts such as family relationships, the workplace, public and private spaces and health institutions. Given the above, this article aims to alert those responsible for public policies, justice and social services. The methodology used is qualitative bibliographic research in scientific works such as: articles, monographs, publications, etc. extracted from the Google Scholar and Scielo databases. Also, the author's experience as a former volunteer in social work in São Paulo's favelas. Furthermore, national data and sources were also researched to support this monograph. It can be concluded that this inequality is structural in nature and is part of a historical, social and cultural construction that places girls in a position of submission and helplessness, to the detriment of men. Thus, it is understood that it is our responsibility, as a society, to seek from an early age to work for the education of children so that they see and understand themselves as human beings who owe each other respect.
