Abstract

This research aims to address Physical Education in childhood and the relevance of popular games. Our objective is to discuss about the contributions of popular games in the child's teaching and learning process. With the emergence of new technologies, popular games have been disappearing, so many teachers have been rescuing these games in Physical Education classes at school, as they seek a education that can provide children with constructive knowledge that promotes their physical, psychological, cognitive and social development, understanding them as an active subject in the teaching and learning process. From this, as a methodological choice, this study used only the references contained in the teaching plan of three subjects of the Licentiate Degree in Physical Education at the Miracema Campus of the Federal University of Tocantins, namely: Games and Play; Physical Education in Early Childhood Education, Supervised Internship in Early Childhood Education. In this perspective, this study was developed in a qualitative approach, with a bibliographic survey. By promoting the rescue of games and games, teachers will allow students to have contact and knowledge, not only about the games, but also about their history. The results demonstrate that the traditional game used as a pedagogical tool is very significant, as it helps in the development of language, imagination, creativity and especially sociability of the child.
