This study, which is characterized as a theoretical essay, aims to elucidate, in the context of Institutional Theory, theoretical perspectives on the field of organizational studies, having as its central focus the understanding of the concept and mechanisms related to institutional isomorphism. Therefore, in addition to the introduction, the essay is divided into four parts, which seek, respectively, to analyze institutional theory from a sociological point of view, bringing the notion of legitimacy; the concept of organizational field; the types of isomorphism and, finally, expose the conclusions of the work. Thus, with the scope of achieving the proposed objective, a bibliographical research was carried out, through which books and articles were collected that address the institutional perspective of analysis and that, consequently, made it possible to understand the essential elements considered for the study.
